As an organisation we are extremely lucky to have Clinical Psychologist, Howard Bath, as part of our team. Howard recently ran training for Foster Carers, School Teachers and Staff that looked at how the experiences of abuse, neglect and seeing family violence, affect the way children think, feel and behave.

Howard reviewed what we know about the impact on their developing brains and how their lifetime prospects for learning, connecting with others, and enjoying life differs from their peers.
In particular, Howard explored how these children deal with stress and anxiety, how this can affect their relationships with peers, and how it can affect us as carers.
Using videos, slides and handouts Howard illustrated the research findings and explored how these findings affect the way we understand the children we care for and how we can best help them cope with the legacy of their early experiences. Teaching staff from Beresfield Public School and Edgeworth Public School attended the training.
