Georgia never expected to become a Foster Carer.
She was 28, single, and renting a home with her two dogs. While she’d spent years working with young people - first as a youth worker and later as a Caseworker - she hadn’t imagined opening her own home to care.
But after supporting other carers and witnessing the impact they had, Georgia started to think, maybe I could do this too.
She began as a respite carer, offering weekend care to a young boy. Not long after, two boys needed a home - and when no other placement could be found, Georgia stepped forward.
With Allambi Care’s support, Georgia became a full-time Therapeutic Home-Based Carer (THBC) - a specialised level of care for young people with higher needs. THBC carers receive increased support and funding to help foster a stable care environment for the long-term.
She hasn’t looked back.
From caseworkers and senior managers to health clinicians and tutors, Georgia’s had a full team behind her from day one. The boys attend weekly play therapy, behaviour support, and tutoring sessions, and have built beautiful connections with the people in their lives.
"I feel just really honoured... that I've been able to be on this journey, and that I get to be a part of their lives and do everything I can to give them something really positive.”
We’re so grateful to have carers like Georgia, who bring dedication, warmth and support to the young people in their care.
Allambi Care supports Foster Carers across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Central Coast, Upper Hunter, and Northern NSW.
