What does home mean to you?
“Home is where you feel happy and safe,” says Robert, a young man from Newcastle.“Applying for Rent Choice Youth is one of the best choices that I’ve made.”
Rent Choice Youth has helped Robert move from transitional accommodation to a secure, safe home where he can thrive. Robert is now living in his own private rental, learning independent living skills like cooking and budgeting and achieving his education goals.Rent Choice Youth helps young people aged 16-24 years who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness to find a stable place to live. The program helps young people get approved for a lease and provides financial support for up to 3 years. The young person is also linked with a support worker to help achieve study or employment goals.
Robert’s caseworker from Allambi Care, Mikaela, says working with Robert has been amazing.
“He is smashing all his goals and I’m so proud of him.”
Robert’s advice for any other young person who needs housing support is simple:
“Don’t be afraid to seek that help out. There is help out there.”
