We'd like to say a big congratulations to our new Education Manager, Timeka Capizzi. We caught up with Timeka so that our staff could get to know her a little better.Screen Shot 2022-10-13 at 11.13.49 am

Why did you take on this role?

First and foremost, I am a passionate advocate for creating brighter futures. My previous career paths have included business management, primary teaching and case work. I took a break from Public Education and came to Allambi Care as a case worker in the Fostering and Permanency team in November 2020, before moving into the Learning Centre at the beginning of 2022 which reignited my enthusiasm for education and ‘outside the box’ thinking.

My love of learning means that I am constantly looking for ways to improve my knowledge, understanding and skills so that I can perform my role to the highest standard possible. I thrive on achieving positive outcomes and my ability to think flexibly means that I will adapt to any given situation and continually strive to achieve the best possible outcomes with the best interest of the child in mind.

Rita Pierson states, "every child deserves a champion; an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists that they become the best they can possibly be" (2013). This statement encapsulates my identity as an educator, a case worker and a mother.

Tell us about the new role...

I have recently taken on the role of Education Manager. This role is responsible for the management of the Learning Centre along with providing educational oversight for the children and young people in our care. I am fortunate to have a team of passionate educators that are dedicated to achieving positive educational outcomes.

The Learning Centre staff focus on developing rapport and connections with the young people in attendance to enhance their social and emotional wellbeing, increase their confidence and self-belief and build their educational capacity to enable them to develop and achieve their goals. We facilitate distance education and specialised programs such as sexual health and tutoring through individual and group settings.

The Education Consultant and I provide advice to management teams to meet the current and future educational needs of our children and young people through support and guidance with coordinating enrolments, attending school meetings and/or seeking alternative educational settings.

Congratulations Timeka!
