Abby didn’t know becoming a Foster Carer was an option for her. She’s married, and both she and her husband work full-time and were focused on their careers. She assumed you had to be home full-time, own your house, and always be available - but that wasn’t the case.
After forming a strong connection with a young person through her role as a youth worker, Abby started respite care. With Allambi Care’s support, she and her husband began caring part-time - which eventually grew into full-time Therapeutic Home-Based Care.
They were never alone in the process. From one-on-one training to cultural support and a wraparound care team, Abby felt equipped and backed every step of the way.
“I thought I was doing this to change this young person's life, but I think what came of it was she changed my life.”
