We celebrated Reconciliation Day with a morning tea held at the Allambi office in Charlestown. It was a fantastic morning that brought together community members, Allambi staff and young people in care.
The event began with a smoking ceremony which was followed by a wonderful talk from Associate Professor Rick Macourt, a young, queer Gumbaynggirr man from Newee Creek. He is currently Associate Dean, First Nations Strategy and Services in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney and Managing Director of First Nations Economics.
Attendees then watched a film that involved a variety of staff and their children as well as members from Awabakal Limited. The film asked participants what the term reconciliation meant to them and how they fostered reconciliation in their everyday work and lives.
