“I’m from just outside Bathurst and moved up to Newcastle about 6 years ago now. I moved up here to study Criminology at uni and to get a change of scenery. Best decision I’ve ever made.
I started at Allambi just before COVID began as a youth worker. This is not a field I ever saw myself working in, but now I can’t see myself doing anything else. After spending a few months working with a range of resi clients, I spent most of my time working with 2 high needs clients in a lifemaps placement at Deasys Rd. The time I spent caring for these complex but amazing boys and working with a bunch of great blokes on the team will always be a part of my life that I will be grateful for. I still miss them, and I think about them every day.
I transitioned to clinical in the second half of last year due to being motivated to have a greater impact on improving the lives of kids and people with disabilities, and I thought that this role would help me achieve that goal.
I believe that everybody is a product of their environment, and that empathy is necessary in every aspect of life. I think that we all deserve to have our needs met, as long as they are not at the cost of taking away the needs”
