Learning & Development: Train our Trainers

Have you ever wanted to Train OUR Trainers?

You might notice a pleasant change in the coming months within our care homes, as the Learning and Development Team make a friendly appearance, joining our front-line staff - both seasoned professionals and newcomers - for a cup of coffee and a catch-up session at shift handover.

Manager, Ben Jones, says this presents an incredible opportunity for the entire team to reconnect with our staff working in ITC, NDIS, and SIL programs.

“It's easy to get stuck in our offices, focusing on designing training plans and revamping our five-day training sessions for new recruits. However, what we truly need is to venture out and engage with our front-line staff directly. We want to know where they perceive gaps in knowledge and how we can enhance our Allambi training experience.”

Starting this July, you may come across Neil and Kimmi as they make their rounds during your handover periods.

"I'll be honest," admits Kimmi. "I've been involved in training for a while now, but it's been quite some time since I set foot in a care home. I need to re-establish that connection to ensure that when I deliver training, it's accurate and up to date!"

Each month, two members of the L&D team - after consulting with the care home manager and staff working on the day - will head out for a visit and a chat.

Ben clarifies, "We're not coming to monitor or scrutinise you. This is a sincere effort to ask our staff about areas where we can collectively improve our training.

“We're not here to socialise with clients we already know and have a good time. Instead, we want to sit down with you during handover and discuss changes that can enhance the skills and support provided by our upcoming wave of staff."

Neil adds, "To put it simply, I'll be asking the question: If you were starting as a brand-new support worker tomorrow, knowing what you know now, what advice would you give yourself to help you through the first six months of your role?"

So, feel free to unwrap the chocolate biscuits, as we are coming to tap into your expertise and enhance the knowledge and skill set of all our new support workers in 2023 and beyond.
