Learning and Development Team - Meet Laura

Written by Allambi | Dec 20, 2022 2:45:16 AM

Hello, who are you and where are you from? Tell us some amazing facts about yourself!

My name is Laura and I’m originally from the Central Coast. I spent 3 years living in Maroubra, before moving to Newcastle in 2020 to buy a house with my partner.

I’m a lover of the gym, margaritas, and sausage dogs. I have two mini dachshunds named Meek and Eddie.

Fun fact about me is that I lived overseas for a year playing collegiate hockey in the USA. I was thrilled to learn the dorm life and parties are just like the movies.

Tell us what you do then!

I’ve recently started in the Learning and Development team and look forward to fostering the new Youth and Disability Support Workers of Allambi. I have a passion for educating others and I look forward to working collaboratively with my new team.

How did you end up here?

I started off as a Youth Worker here at Allambi. I loved every minute of it and I’m grateful for the opportunities that I had as a frontline worker.

What makes you hop out of bed each morning, with a smile on your face, knowing you are coming to work?

Gym, coffee and a job I love. It’s a rewarding job when you realise your work can have a positive impact on a young person’s life.

What has been your COVID guilty pleasure?

Home-made frozen margaritas and a binge on Ozark and Grey's Anatomy.

Now COVID world has calmed down, where would you like to travel and why?

I’ve just come back from a relaxing week away in Thailand. I think my next trip will need to be something more adventurous. Possibly Japan or Europe.

Which piece of advice given to you, have you managed to stick to in life?

My favourite piece of advice is to always fill your own cup up first.

‘You are a human before you are a helper, a healer, an advocate, a caregiver, or a supporter. Be sure to respond to your humanness with gentle kindness and care.'
