The theme for the July Safety Campaign is: You’re important at work. At home you’re irreplaceable.
All workers have a right to return home safe at the end of their day. Taking risks at work not only endangers you but can also have long-term effects on your workmates, those we support, your loved ones, and the wider community.
There are many procedures and everyday practices detailed in client BSP’s/PRIP’s that are essential for keeping you safe, these include:
- Eliminating / removing objects that could be used as a weapon by completing regular checks of the work environment
- Substituting the hazard with a safer alternative e.g. substitute food in glass containers for plastic containers
- The 'no client in the office' mandatory rule
- Restricted practices to the environment
- Increase worker to client ratio
- Identifying and reporting hazards and near misses
- Good housekeeping
- Infection Prevention & Control
- Correct Manual Handling Techniques
- Client routines
- Consultation on worker safety at team meetings
- Regular check-in to support psychological wellbeing
