We thought there would be tears and we got them. The Ignite Conference was held this week and involved two days of speakers and panel discussions. Allambi staff from Victoria, Northern NSW and the Hunter were fortunate to hear from a number of international guests as well as variety of local Carers and Allambi staff doing awesome work. However, it was stories from those with lived experience, particularly four incredibly brave young people who grew up within the care system, that stole the show. We’d also like to acknowledge Family Inclusion Strategies in the Hunter (FISH) who contributed to a wonderful panel discussion about keeping families together.
Our amazing international speakers included:
Kari Sisson - Executive Director, Association of Children's Residential and Community Services
Lisette Burton - Chief Policy and Practice Advisor, Association of Children's Residential and Community Services
Dr Kiaras Gharabaghi - Dean of the Faculty of Community Services, Toronto Metropolitan University
Emmerald Evans - Policy Associate, GRACE & End Child Poverty California
Joe Ford - Chief Program Officer, Sycamores
Mark Nickell - Director of Strategic Initiatives, Association of Children's Residential and Community Services
We want to say a huge thank you to everyone that contributed over the two days.
