Update from the Culture Team

Allambi Care hosted a NAIDOC celebration, on the 11th of August with a smoking ceremony to cleanse our staff and families. Followed by our Cultural Therapeutic Specialist Barry McGrady, CEO Simon Walsh, and our guest speaker Aunty Deb Swan. Each spoke about their journey and this year's NAIDOC theme. We also had a special didgeridoo performance from one of our young people.

Our Cultural Therapeutic Specialist Barry McGrady will be presenting Connecting Families at the 5th Annual Aboriginal Wellbeing Conference at Coffs Harbour on the theme of “Sharing knowledge to create our Dreaming".

Upcoming Cultural Programs:

Speaking in Colour - Resurgence Program

This program will be using Aboriginal methodology of weaving. Inspired by the traditional practice of coiling with rushes, lomandra, and other grasses these contemporary artworks provide the opportunity for the youth and community to explore and learn about the traditional practices while being culturally appropriate, making a contemporary sculpture with contemporary materials.

Details:

  • The program will be for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal young people and staff supporting their clients.
  • Starts on Wednesday the 24th of August, reoccurring every Wednesday until the end of the school term.
  • Times of the Wellbeing and Weaving are 2pm till 5pm. These times will be split into three sessions on a Wednesday.
