Conflict of Interest awareness

At Allambi Care, managing conflicts of interest is everyone's responsibility. Conflicts of interest can arise in a variety of workplace situations, and understanding how to identify and manage them helps protect both staff and the organisation.

The following information provides clarification on:
  • What to do if you believe a colleague may have a conflict of interest.
  • Which relationships should be declared.
  • Where to find the Conflicts of Interest Policy and supporting resources
If you suspect a colleague has a conflict of interest
You may occasionally become aware of circumstances that could present a conflict of interest for a colleague. In these situations, the expectation is not that you investigate or report the matter on their behalf.

Instead, you should:
✅ Discuss your concerns respectfully with the staff member.
✅ Encourage them to complete a Conflict of Interest Declaration.
✅ Seek guidance from your manager if you remain concerned.

The purpose of our Conflicts of Interest process is to support transparency. In many cases, staff may simply be unaware that a situation requires disclosure.
When should you declare a relationship?

Understanding which relationships require declaration is important to ensure transparency and consistency across the organisation. At Allambi Care, not all relationships are considered conflicts of interest.

Friendships and general acquaintances are not considered conflicts of interest and do not require declaration solely because the relationship exists. However, the following relationships must be declared as they can influence, have the potential to influence, or be perceived to influence, workplace decisions:

✅ Family relationships
✅ Relationships through marriage or partnership
✅ Romantic or intimate relationships

These relationships should be disclosed where they involve another staff member, client, contractor, supplier, applicant, or any other person connected to your work responsibilities.

A declaration does not mean there is a problem, nor does it imply that the relationship is inappropriate. It simply allows the organisation to assess any actual, potential, or perceived conflict and determine whether management strategies are required.

Need to check the Policy?
The Conflicts of Interest Policy is available on the Allambi Care Intranet/SharePoint.
