Violence and aggression are foreseeable risks in our industry.
If a situation becomes unsafe, follow established procedures, seek support and take action to protect yourself.
Before and during a behaviour escalation:
Review PRIPs, BSPs and risk assessments before commencing your shift.
Recognise triggers and early warning signs of escalation.
Use de-escalation strategies.
Maintain safe positioning and know your exit options.
Call for support early.
Remove yourself from danger when safe to do so.
Report hazards, near misses and incidents so risks can be reviewed and controls strengthened.
By understanding risks, following procedures, maintaining safe positioning, and communicating early, we can reduce the likelihood of injury and create safer environments for everyone.
