40 years ago, in 1981, life was tough for families, the country was in a downturn heading towards the 1982-83 recession, a recession that particularly hit Newcastle hard.

Many families found themselves under such enormous pressure, that unfortunately many children found themselves in dire circumstances. In response to this need a group of concerned locals opened The Lake Macquarie Youth Refuge, known as ‘Allambi House’.

 

A lot has happened in 40 years, including a couple of name changes, ‘Allambi Youth Services Inc’ between 2001-2015 and since then, Allambi Care.

Today Allambi Care has grown to an organisation that serves individuals, families, communities and government agencies. Our services are flexible and characterised by innovation and best practice. And committed to empowering people to reach their full potential.

 

We’ve learned a lot in the past 40 years and continue to learn and grow - and to find innovative ways for children and families to deal with the pressures of life today.
