A 12-year-old young person entered an emergency placement with their siblings in June 2025. They had not seen their father or any paternal family members since they were three years old, and their father sadly passed away in 2023. Through Family Finding, Allambi Care was able to find a paternal half sister and her grandparents, as well as this young person’s paternal grandmother, two aunts, two uncles and eight cousins who were eager to reconnect with them and all their siblings. We have been able to gather important information about their dad and who they are as a person, including learning that their dad left significant inheritance for them, which is sitting in a trust, and getting copies of the few photos that exist of this young person and their dad.
Reconnecting has been incredibly healing for both this young person and their family - who were not only grieving their dad, but for their lost relationship with the children. This young person and their siblings have since been placed with Foster Carers, and a large family get-together was organised with Foster Carers, siblings and all of the extended paternal family members to celebrate their birthday.
Over the last 6 months, we have been able to really expand on this young person’s support network and create opportunities for them to connect with their family to support their healing and sense of belonging.
