A story we’re honoured to share

Two siblings in foster care aged 14 & 12 who entered out-of-home care in 2016, aged 5 & 3. Both children experienced instability during their time in care with 4-6 changes to their home and primary caregiver during that time. Throughout their time in care, they maintained strong and meaningful relationships with their parents, siblings, and extended family members and have strong community connections and educational engagement.

In 2020 when their foster care placement was unstable, Allambi Care explored the strengths and capacity of their father to look at possible restoration. During the last 5 years there has been a lot of advocacy with DCJ to get the positive outcome that we now have. There was clear bias by some external parties around this dad being able to care for his children and negative assumptions about his history. Allambi Care saw the strength, love and capacity that dad had, and we were able to push and advocate for the outcome we believed to be best for the siblings.

It has taken 5 years and extensions of government timeframes for restoration (which are 2 years) to achieve legal permanency for the siblings. Due to the time it took for the department and courts to understand the strength that we were able to see in the family, the siblings self-placed. Following them self-placing in December 2024, in July 2025 we received final orders for restoration to their Dad and the siblings are now thriving in all areas.

Both siblings are home with other siblings and their dad. Thriving and excelling in school, maintaining relationships with extended maternal and paternal family. Engaging and excelling in sports. Engaging in therapies and NDIS supports.

The siblings are happy and living where they belong!!
